The 1950s was a decade of recovery, rejuvenation and reorientation in Hong Kong history. The post-war inflow of capital, industrialists, and migrants, and shift in geopolitics provided opportunities for the city’s transformation and strengthening of governance. Kowloon underwent rapid changes in various aspects.
Drawing on archival materials in The Hong Kong Heritage Project Archive, this exhibition showcases the changing social landscape of the Kowloon in the areas of cross-harbour connectivity, medical provision, and power use. Through the development of these social infrastructure, it tells a story of innovation and progression.
